Bollnow’s Theory of Experiential Space and the Pedagogy of Place 볼노(Bollnow)의 체험공간론과 장소의 페다고지: 남호엽

Abstract

This study focuses on reexamining the pedagogy of place based on Bollnow’s theory of experiential space. In Bollnow’s view, humans are the product of the relationship between the home and the wide world outside it. Establishing the relationship between home and the outside world is done in terms of becoming a true dweller, and this situation is a state in which humans take good care of their lives. True dwelling means taking root in a certain place, overcoming the tension between internal and external space, and committing to the outside world based on trust. Bollnow’s theory of experiential space contributes to establishing an educational theory for true dwelling. First, the school curriculum can be established as a structure of the relationship between the home and the outside world, where the outside of the home is the public world and the unknown world. Second, in terms of expanding the scope of home, regionalization of school curriculum should focus on the process of turning the area where learners live into a place of dwelling. Third, learners must have learning opportunities to experience the inherent nature of the landscape, like a wanderer walking on a trail, so that they can live the life of a true dweller.

이 연구는 볼노의 체험공간론에 기초하여 장소의 페다고지를 재음미하는데 초점이 있다. 볼노가 보기에 인간은 집과 그 외부의 넓은 세계 사이 관계의 산물이다. 집과 바깥 세계 사이 관계 설정은 참된 거주자 되기의 측면에서 이루어지며, 이 상황은 인간이 자신의 삶을 잘 돌보는 상태이다. 참된 거주는 일정한 장소에 뿌리내림, 내부와 외부 공간의 긴장을 극복함, 신뢰에 기초하여 외부 세계에 투신함을 의미한다. 볼노의 체험공간론은 참된 거주를 위한 교육론 정립에 기여한다. 첫째, 학교 교육과정은 집과 그 바깥 세계 사이 관계 구도로 설정할 수 있는데, 집의 외부는 공공 세계와 미지의 세계이다. 둘째, 집의 외연 확대 측면에서 교육과정의 지역화는 학습자가 살고 있는 고장을 참된 거주의 장소로 만들어 나가는 과정에 주안점을 두어야 한다. 셋째, 학습자들은 오솔길을 걷는 도보 여행자처럼 경관의 내재성을 체험할 수 있는 학습의 기회를 가져야 진정한 거주자의 인생을 살 수 있을 것이다.
